What food is my puppy eating?
Excellent question! Your puppy will go home eating Royal Canin Puppy. They start this with us when they begin weening from mom. You can find it on Amazon, PetSmart, or most pet stores. It comes in xtra small or small bite sizes, either is fine! I recommend Elzie's as they get older, we will be switching to this entirely soon! Check it out on the Home Page.

How can we connect while waiting?
Here at Passionate PomPoms we do our best to help families stay connected while they wait to pick up their babies.
I will send pictures and videos weekly prior to pick up, but if you are missing your baby just message me and I will gladly send more. Connecting with you and helping the bond from an early start is something we are passionate about!

Additionally, if you want to send a voice clip we can start playing your voice for your puppy well before you ever actually meet! Families have also sent in a toy with their "scent" so that puppies can get familiar with this before meeting!

Will my puppy be potty trained?
Here at Passionate PomPoms we start the training for all puppies using a litter box! Much like a cat, they jump in, do their business and jump out!
Our goal is to reduce the amount of chemicals used and choose products best for our dogs. Puppy pads can be used as well, I always say do what's best for your family - but they will leave here familiar with the pine pellets in a small litter box!

This always raises questions so be sure to check in with me if you have any!
Pellets can be found on Amazon, Tractor Supply, or pet stores!
If you are getting an older puppy or want to train a larger dog I recommend a larger litter box with higher sides
When should we schedule our first vet visit?
I ask that all Passionate PomPom family schedule their first visit with 72 hours of pick up. I do give a weekend grace period with this as well, of course. This just allows you to get a vet you trust, get established with your vet and prepare to schedule for their next shots.
How can we prepare for our puppy?
First I always recommend a small area blocked with a playpen of some kind. In this area offer your puppy their food, water, litter box and bed. This will be their "safe space". This will be similar to what they're used to here and I do my best to have them accustomed to being alone at night before going home.

As you introduce them to your home just be aware they will get under your feet! I always advise that small children sit down while they play. Introduce one room at a time as they get used to your home.
When should my puppy have their first bath?
All puppies have their first bath before leaving Passionate PomPoms. We also trim their nails!
It's important to wait 2-3 weeks before fully submerging them for a second bath due to drying of their skin. If they are itchy you can add fish oil supplements to their food. Feel free to contact me about this!
What about their first shots?
Yes! All puppies leave up to date on shots/ dewormer. Your puppy will have their first car ride and vet visit with us here at Passionate PomPoms around 6-7 weeks. We schedule their visit which includes exam, first shots and staying up to date with dewormer. You will go home with all of this paperwork including detailed information of when their next shots are due!
Should we consider pet insurance?
Yes! Did I mention, yes! Pet insurance gives you a peace of mind in the case of an accident occurring. If you've had a Pomeranian before you know, they think they are invincible!
There are many different insurance options - you'll receive 30 day complimentary when you register your pet. Oftentimes you can add them to your current existing health insurance policy!
I have included a list of recommended options provided by previous puppy families. Visit the "Pet Insurance Options" tab or click here.
What Are Other Things We Should Consider Getting Our New Puppy?
A harness is best for pomeranians. A collar is not recommended for small breeds.

A stroller is a good choice for walks

A snuggle puppy can really help with transitioning as they can hear a heartbeat and feel warmth like siblings

Dried chicken treats - anything with low calories is a great treat that will still hold nutritional value.

They love crinkle toys! They have less stuffing so less worry! Rope toys are a good option as well. They also make bones that can help with puppy teeth as they reach the stage of losing their little teeth.
What about worms!?
Oh the idea, sight or even discussion of worms - YUCK!
But the conversation must be had! Worms are common in puppies. In fact, most puppies before or at birth HAVE WORMS! I know, I know - we want to avoid that topic but its so important to be educated on them!

There are different types of worms and therefore require different treatments. Here at Passionate PomPoms all puppies are treated at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks for worms.
At their first vet appointment we do what is called a "community fecal".
What this means is instead of testing each individual puppy, it concludes a result from ALL puppies of that litter. This is the most ethical practice as a breeder because if one puppy is still testing positive, they are exposed to the others by close contact and should also be treated.

When your puppy goes home it is not uncommon to see a change beyond normal in their stool habits. This can look like runny, watery or discoloration, and could even be blood present in their stools. This can come from a dewormer given, or just even simply stress from a change of environment.

When you puppy goes home they will be a part of a regular routine visit with your vet and they can help be confident your puppy is and remains in the BEST health. They will continue to get dewormer with their vaccines as standard protocol.
Will we register our puppy?
We will now be providing unique birth certificates
for puppies effective Fall 2025!
We are really excited about this as we will now provide documentaion of lineage of the parents, and for some as far back as 3 generations, with no additional cost to the families.

In our experience, many owners never register their puppies and it is an additional cost to provide paperwork that is often discarded. Since all of our puppies are raised to be cherished companions and do not come with breeding rights, no individual registration paperwork will be provided but instead we will provide proof of lineage and a signed birth certificate for each puppy!

Our program is currently a mixture of CKC and AKC registered parents but we are working towards a full AKC program. Stay tuned for updates as this is a developing plan!
Do you microchip puppies?
Currently puppies are not microchipped before they go home.
